Nach Hause stiefeln wir verstört und alt,

die grelle, gelbe Nacht hat abgeblüht.

Wir sehn, wie über den Laternen, kalt

und dunkelblau, der Himmel droht und glüht.

 

Nun winden sich die langen Straßen, schwer

und fleckig, bald, im breiten Glanz der Tage.

Die kräftige Aurore bringt ihn her,

mit dicken, rotgefrorenen Fingern, zage.

Hazafele tér mi öreg és zavarodott,

kinyílott az élénk, sárga éjszaka.

A lámpák fölött látszik, a fagyott

és sötétkék ég fenyegetőn ragyogva.

 

Nehéz és piszkos utat, magába térőt

jár hosszan, míg elárad a nap fénye.

A Hajnal ereje tereli mifelénk őt,

vastag, szétfagyott ujjakkal, félve.
