Rückert, Friedrich: I Am So Lost to the World (Ich Bin der Welt Abhanden Gekommen in English)

Portre of Rückert, Friedrich

In meinem Lieben, in meinem Lied.

I Am So Lost to the World (English)

To all the world so lost in seclusion
Wherein I have wasted time's abundance,
And for so long now, having heard of nothing,
It may well think that I have departed.

But what is that to me when nothing matters
Or whether it believes me dead.
I cannot make a single denial
For truly have I departed the world.

I am now dead to the world's commotion
And, resting in this silent retreat,
I live alone in my own heaven,
In my own loving, in my own song.

(Singable to the Mahler Melody)
