Blodgett, E. D.: Hřbitovy (Cemeteries in Czech)

Portre of Blodgett, E. D.

Cemeteries (English)

the cemeteries are
all asleep beneath
the shade of ancient trees

only the birds among
their leaves appear awake
and women scattered here

and there among the tombs
flowers here are not
as flowers that are seen

growing along the roads
these are flowers that
appear to nod among

themselves passing such
secrets that only flowers have
of what is theirs beneath

the ground of who they are
entwined among the dead
for those bending near

the perfume they give off
is how time might smell
if time rose with the sun

Hřbitovy (Czech)

hřbitovy oddychují
v hlubokém spánku
ve stínu prastarých stromů

budou to nejspíš jen ptáci
kdo uprostřed jejich listí
bdí a ženy roztroušené

sem tam mezi hroby
zdejší květiny nejsou
jako ty kytky co rostou

běžně podél cest
zdá se že tyhle květy
si navzájem pokyvují

a svěřují tajemství
známá jen květinám
o tom co patří jen jim

pod zemí a o tom čím
jsou s mrtvými propletené
těm co se skloní blíž

jejich vůně připadá
že tak by mohl vonět čas
kdyby rostl se sluncem
