Burns, Robert: Északra lesek (I look to the North in Hungarian)

Portre of Burns, Robert
Portre of Répás Norbert

Back to the translator

I look to the North (English)

Out over the Forth, I look to the North,
But what is the North and its Highlands to me;
The South, nor the East, gie ease to my breast,
The far foreign land, or the wide rolling sea:

But I look to the West, when I gae to rest,
That happy my dreams and my slumbers may be;
For far in the West lives he I lo'e best,
The man that is dear to my babie and me.

Északra lesek (Hungarian)

Kinn Forth partja felett északra lesek,
de mit nekem te északi felvidék:
Lelkemen nem enyhít dél, sem kelet,
se távol föld vagy tenger, tajték.

De nyugatra nézek, ha pihenni eredek,
hogy vidám álmom s alvásom legyen;
Távol nyugaton él, kit nagyon szeretek,
a férfi, ki kedveli gyermekem s engem.
