Clampitt, Amy: Berceuse (Berceuse in Hungarian)

Portre of Clampitt, Amy

Berceuse (English)

Listen to Gieseking playing a Berceuse
of Chopin—the mothwing flutter
light as ash, perishable as burnt paper—

and sleep, now the furnaces of Auschwitz
are all out, and tourists go there.
The purest art has slept with turpitude,

we all pay taxes. Sleep. The day of waking
waits, cloned from the phoenix—
a thousand replicas in upright silos,

nurseries of the ultimate enterprise.
Decay will undo what it can, the rotten
fabric of our repose connives with doomsday.

Sleep on, scathed felicity. Sleep, rare
and perishable relic. Imagining’s no shutter
against the absolute, incorrigible sunrise.

Berceuse (Hungarian)

Hallgasd, hogy játssza Gieseking Chopin
Berceuse-ét - a pille szárnyreszketést, a
hamukönnyű, perzselt-papír tünékenyt -,

s aludj, most, hogy az auschwitzi kemencék
mind kihúnytak, turista-láthelyek.
A szín művészet a gyalázattal hált,

mind ezért adózunk. Aludj. Az ébredés napja
vár, az ivartalan főnix-születés -
ezernyi válasz a függőleges silókban,

a végső vállalkozás dajkahelyein.
Rontja a romlás, amit bír, rohadt
nyugvás-szövetünk ítéletnapi cinkos.

Aludj tovább, roncsolt üdv. Aludj, te ritka
s tűnékeny relikvia. A képzelés nem redőny,
ha jön az abszolút napkelte, a nincs-másképp.
