Davie, Donald: Eden

Portre of Davie, Donald

Eden (English)

Adam had found what was not his to seek,
Command of motives; and the world grew heated,
The self extended and the will elated.
He can, he sees, make Eve again attractive
Almost at will, using this new technique
For rousing, as for quenching, an incentive.

A sin in gardens, where the shadows' play
Makes clarity a sin. So the attendant
Shows them the door. The garden was abandoned
To twilight, seasons, and the steady tread
Of natural wants that, once met, fell away,
Chill in evenings, gratefully exhausted.

Éden (Hungarian)

Nem tartozott Ádámra, de talált
Okot és célt; a világ lángra lobbant,
Nőtt akarata s énje egyre jobban.
Lám, Éva újra vonzó lesz, ha rája
Alkalmazza ezt az új Technikát:
Indítékot, mely hűt, vagy gyújt a lángja.

E kertben, hol az árnyak hangadók,
Bűn az ily fény. Így hát az őr kiverte
Az első párt. Maradt homály a kertbe,
Az évszakok s örök szükségletek
Jártak, kielégítve lankadók,
S jött esténként hálás-ernyedt hideg.
