Duhig, Ian: Ír szerzetes zsoltár átiraton dolgozik (részlet) (Margin Prayer from an Ancient Psalter (detail) in Hungarian)

Portre of Duhig, Ian

Margin Prayer from an Ancient Psalter (detail) (English)

Oh Forgiving Christ of scribes and sinners
intercede for me with the jobbing abbot!
Get me re-assigned to something pagan
with sex and perhaps gratuitous violence
which I might deplore with insular majuscule
and illustrate with Mozarabic complexity
Ad maioram gloriam Dei et Hiberniae,
and lest you think I judge the book too harshly
from pride or a precious sensibility
I have arranged for a second opinion.
Tomorrow our surveyor, Ronan the Barbarian,
will read out loud as only he can read out loud
selected passages from this which I have scored
while marking out his new church in Killaney
in earshot of that well-versed man, King Suibhne….

Ír szerzetes zsoltár átiraton dolgozik (részlet) (Hungarian)

Írnok s bűnös Irgalmas Krisztusa,
Ó, járj közben érettem az apátnál!
Hadd osszanak rám valami pogányt,
lehet szex vagy öncélú erőszak,
hogy kárhoztassam külön nagybetűvel
fessem mozarabikus cirkalommal
Ad maioram gloriam Dei et Hiberniae,
s hogy ne véld, szigorú vagyok a könyvhöz
gőgből, finnyás túlfinomultságból,
kikértem másnak is a véleményét.
Holnap felügyelőnk, Barbár Ronán,
fennen, hiszen neki áll mindig feljebb,
szemelvényt olvas ebből, amit írtam,
új templomának kijelölője Killarneyban
kőhajításra bölcs Suibhne királytól...

(A szöveg innentől olvashatatlan tóvíz okozta károsodás és hódpiszok okán.)
