Ignatow, David: An Allegory

Portre of Ignatow, David

An Allegory (English)

I offer my back to the silken net
to keep it from falling to the ground-
the smooth part of me,
silk would catch on my nails,
the skein spread as far as I can see
across humped backs like mine.
Those straightening up
through a rip and looking about
say, 'How everything shines.'

Allegória (Hungarian)

Hátam feszítem a selyemszövetnek,
tartom, nehogy a földre lógjon,
támasztja testem sima fele,
körmömbe akad a selyemfonál,
s ameddig látok, mindenütt a szálak,
görnyedt hátakon, akár az enyém.
S aki egy résen át
kiegyenesedik s körülnéz:
„Hogy ragyog minden!" - így kiált.
