Jonson, Ben: Céliám, most jöjj velem (Come my Celia, let us prove in Hungarian)

Portre of Jonson, Ben
Portre of Vas István

Back to the translator

Come my Celia, let us prove (English)

Come my Celia, let us prove,

While we may, the sports of love.

Time will not be ours for ever:

He at length our good will sever.

Spend not then his gifts in vain;

Suns that set may rise again,

But if once we lose this light

'Tis, with us, perpetual night.

Why should we defer our joys?

Fame and rumour are but toys.

Cannot we delude the eyes

Of a few poor household spies?

Or his easier ears beguile,

So removed by our wile?

'Tis no sin love's fruit to steal,

But the sweet theft to reveal;

To be taken, to be seen,

These have crimes accounted been.

Céliám, most jöjj velem (Hungarian)

Céliám, most jöjj velem,

most miénk a szerelem,

mert az Idő tőlünk elszáll,

minden szépet, jót elherdál,

éld hát, amit néked ad,

nap leszáll, felkél a nap,

de ha leszáll a mi fényünk,

örök éjszakába lépünk.

Gyönyörünket mért tennéd el?

Mit törődöl hírrel-névvel?

Az a néhány házi spicli

nem fog minket rajtacsípni,

kandi fülek és szemek

nálunk rajtavesztenek.

Bűn a lopott szerelem?

Nem, csak mély titok legyen.

Csak ne lopj ügyetlenül:

bűn az, ami kiderül.
