Nash, Ogden: Állati versek - 2. (Bestial poems - 2. in Hungarian)

Portre of Nash, Ogden

Bestial poems - 2. (English)

The Centipede

I objurgate the centipede,
A bug we do not really need.
At sleepy-time he beats a path
Straight to the bedroom or the bath.
You always wallop where he's not,
Or, if he is, he makes a spot.

The Grackle

The grackle's voice is less than mellow,
His heart is black, his eye is yellow,
He bullies more attractive birds
With hoodlum deeds and vulgar words,
And should a human interfere,
Attacks that human in the rear.
I cannot help but deem the grackle
An ornithological debacle.

The Eel

I don't mind eels
Except as meals.

Állati versek - 2. (Hungarian)

A százlábú

A csiröge

A csiröge jómadár, kötelet a nyakára!
A szíve annak fekete, a szeme sárga.
Beleköt más madárba, ágál,
Egy szadista, beszédje trágár,
És ha egy ember közbelép,
Hát jaj nektek, szem, fej, máj, görbe lép.
Sajnálom, de a csirege
A madártan csúf örege.

Az angolna

Háztetőnek: angol nád,
És nem sovány angolnák.

-------------------
Változat:

Hosszabbak az angolnák,
Mint gondolnád.

Még változat:

Fütyülök az angolnára,
Eszem nem csatangol nála.

Még változat:

Ne jöjjön az angolna
Zongorámat hangolni.
Nem mintha bitang volna,
De csak angol hang szólna.
