O'Rourke, Meghan: Halflife

Portre of O

Halflife (English)

The blue square of light
in the window across the street
never goes dark —

the cathodes, the cordage, the atoms
working the hem of dusk—
traveling past the cranes and the docks

and the poisoned oyster beds,
the trees loaded with radium,
colors that sound like guns,

red pock-pock red and the sea yellow up,
yellow down —
the blue hour, the waiting.

In the hospitals
I was the light of the tv
I rustled past the guard

I put my hand over your mouth
I shoved your face
into the pillow —

I came and came through the sodium streets
past the diners, a minister idly turning his glass,
service stations, gas, cars sharp in the light.

How long will the light go on?
Longer than you. Still you ought to live like a city,
rich and fierce at the center.

Félélet (Hungarian)

Az a kék négyzet
az ablakban, az utca túloldalán,
soha nem alszik ki –

a katódok, a drótok, az atomok
megtörik az alkonyat szegélyét –
fényének útja mellett a daruk és a dokkok

és a mérgezett kagylótelepek,
a rádiummal töltött fák,
fegyverként elsülő színek,

himlőhelyek vörös támadása és a tenger:
sárga fel és sárga le –
a kékóra, a várakozás.

A korházakban
én voltam a tv fénye,
én osontam zúgva az őr mellett,

a szádra én szorítottam a kezemet,
én nyomtam az arcodat
mélyen a párnába –

Én jöttem és jöttem végig a sós utakon,
a pultok mellett, a poharazó lelkész,
szervizek, benzin, az éles fényben álló kocsik mellett.

Meddig tart még ez a fény?
Nálad tovább. De neked élned kell, mint város,
hevesen és gazdagon legbelül.
