Symons, Arthur: Alla Dogana* (Alla Dogana in Hungarian)

Portre of Symons, Arthur

Alla Dogana (English)

Night, and the silence of the night,
In Venice; far away, a song;
As if the lyric water made
Itself a serenade;
As if the water's silence were a song
Sent up into the night.

Night, a more perfect day,
A day of shadows luminous,
Water and sky at one, at one with us;
As if the very peace of night,
The older peace than heaven or light,
Came down into the day.

Alla Dogana* (Hungarian)

Éjszaka, és csendje az éjnek,
Velencében; egy távoli dal;
Mintha a víz maga lenne
A szerenád szövege;
Mintha a víz csendje volna a dal
Felküldve az éjnek.

Éjszaka, és egy nap befejezve,
A nap mely árnyékok fénye,
Bennünk a víz és az ég együtt léve;
Mint az éj igazi békéje,
Az öregebb béke a menny vagy fénye
A napba szállt le.

*A Punta della Dogana Velencében, a Canal Grande nyílásánál áll. Ennél az épületnél álltak meg a hajók portékáikat elvámolni. A XVII. században építették, Giuseppe Benoni műve.
