Yeats, William Butler: Egy részeg a józanság dícséretét zengi (A Drunken Man's Praise of Sobriety in Hungarian)

Portre of Yeats, William Butler

A Drunken Man's Praise of Sobriety (English)

Come swish around, my pretty punk,
And keep me dancing still
That I may stay a sober man
Although I drink my fill.

Sobriety is a jewel
That I do much adore;
And therefore keep me dancing
Though drunkards lie and snore.

O mind your feet, O mind your feet,
Keep dancing like a wave,
And under every dancer
A dead man in his grave.

No ups and downs, my pretty,
A mermaid, not a punk;
A drunkard is a dead man,
And all dead men are drunk.

Egy részeg a józanság dícséretét zengi (Hungarian)

Szép szajhám, gyere, ropd velem,
És legyen a tánc serény,
Hogy józan maradjon fejem,
Bár iszok mint gödény.

A józanság egy drágakő,
Imádom szerfölött,
Következésképp gyere, ropd,
Bár csalok s böfögök.

Igazítsd jól a lábadat,
Táncolj zavartalan,
Ne bánd, hogy minden láb alatt
Egy hulla sírja van.

Nincs semmi jó és semmi rossz,
Sellő vagy, nem kokott;
Egy részeg pasi az nem él,
És tökrészeg minden halott.
