Zukofsky, Louis: [Arizonában] ([In Arizona] in Hungarian)

Portre of Zukofsky, Louis

[In Arizona] (English)

In Arizona
(how many years in the mountains)
The small stumped bark of a tree
Looks up
in the shape of an adored pup

The indians do not approach it
The round indian tents
         remain where they are
The tanned whites
        are never seen by it
And one can imagine its imploring eyes

The skies
it seems to look up to
                                        blue
The same sun that worms the desert
Warms what one
can imagine to be its ears.

[Arizonában] (Hungarian)

Arizonában
   (hány éve a hegyek közt)
Egy fa kis csonkolt kérge
Felnéz
       imádott kölyökkutya-alakban

Az indiánok nem közelítik
A kerek indián sátrak
           maradnak ahol vannak
A cserzett bőrű fehérek
           sosem mutatkoznak neki
Képzelhetők esdeklő szemei

Az ég
         ahova mintha fölnézne
                                    merő kék
És ugyanaz a nap mely a sivatagot melegíti
Melegíti amit
         az ő két fülének képzelhetünk
