Guillaume de Machaut (1300-1377) – champagne-i származású  udvari költő, Luxemburgi János cseh király pártfogoltja és jegyzője, a reimsi székesegyház kanonokja. A kötött formájú lírai versek mestere. Az ő nevéhez fűződik a vers és a zenei dallam szétválasztása.
