Biography

László G. István published five volumes of poetry. Öt ajtón át (Through Five Doors, 1994); Kereszthuzat (Draught of Air, 1996), Merülő szonettek (Submerged Sonnets, 1998), Napfoltok (Sunspots, 2001), and Amíg alszom, vigyázz magadra (I Lay me Down Thy Soul to Keep, 2006). He translated in several volumes of poetry poems from the English included Emily Dickinson, W.B.Yeats, J Joyce, S. Plath, Ted Hughes, George Szirtes, Don Peterson, Antony Dunn and Owen Sheers. He works as an Assistant Professor of English Literature in the Comperative Department of G. Károli Protestant University. In 1999 he participated the Cambridge Writers’ Conference sponsored by the British Council, In 2004 he spent two weeks at the International Writing House in Rhodes. In 2007 he is member of the Iowa International Writing Program He was awarded the Móricz Zsigmond Literary Grant in 1999, The NKA Literary Grant and the Radnóti Award for poets in 2006 and the Babits Grant for Translators in 2007.
