Acsai Roland: Guests of the mountain (A hegy vendégei in English)

A hegy vendégei (Hungarian)

Beleírtuk nevünket
A hegy vendégkönyvébe.

Odafönt, közvetlenül a szirt alatt.
A fák oda már nem követhettek.

Sorban lemaradoztak
Még a legkitartóbbak is:

A fenyők és a nyírek.

Fekszik a könyv egy sziklán,
Magasan, odafönt.

Szél lapozgat benne,
Betemeti a hó,

Amíg mi reggelit készítünk,
Autóba szállunk, vagy gyereket

Nevelünk. És ott lesz akkor is,
Ha egyszer majd elfelejtjük,

Hogy valamikor egy hegy
Vendégei voltunk.

Guests of the mountain (English)

We wrote our names into
the guestbook of the mountain.

Up there, just under the cliff.
The trees could not follow us to there.

Bit by bit, even the most tenacious ones
were left behind:

The pines and the birches.

The book rests on a rock,
Up there, way up high.

The wind turns its pages,
Snow buries it.

Whilst we are making breakfast,
get in the car, or discipline the children.

And it will be there even if,
in times to come, we forget

That we once had been
Guests of a mountain.
