Orpheus (Hungarian)

Miért hívtál? – A vaksötét halál
mélyéről visszahozlak! – De te hívtál!
Szép, gyöngéd, halott kedves, aki értem
haltál, helyettem haltál, úgy hihettem –

Szerelmem mégsem lett teljes halálod?

Ág kristálya, patakvíz elfolyó
áttetsző tündér-köve, avar-ágy –
dunnája, földet vajúdó tavasz, Te –
ahol születtél, az lett nászi ágyad –

Mért születtél újra a nászi ágyból?

Ismertem már a csöndet, holt szívem
csöndjét. – Panasz-szavadra felzokogtam,
és ember-hangom, egykor néma lények
visszhang-szavában sírok. Szép halottam,

Szerelmem, hallod patakzó halálom?

Orpheus (English)

Why did you call me? -  I'll bring you back
from the dense, dark depths of death! - But you called me!
You fair, fond, dead lover, you, who died for me,
instead of me, I could have thought -

Had my love not made your death complete?

Crystal of feeding stream, translucent fairy stone
of the rivulet, eiderdown of fallen leaves,
spring's birthing of the earth,
you - where you were born became your marriage bed -

Why were you born again from the marriage bed?

I was already acquainted with silence,
still of my dead heart, - your plaintive words had made me sob,
and my human voice, my cry, the echo voice
of creatures once voiceless.  My fair deceased,

my love, can you hear my streaming death?
