Hárs Ernő: The weightlessness of May (Májusi súlytalanság in English)

Portre of Hárs Ernő
Portre of Kery, Leslie A.

Back to the translator

Májusi súlytalanság (Hungarian)

Akácfavirágtól habos nappalok

s a csalogányok végetérhetetlen

trilláival telt éjszakák között

halad a rossz test lassan cél felé,

oly könnyedén, oly semmi zajt nem ütve,

mintha ólomsúly esztendők helyett

csak göndör felhő volna rakománya.

The weightlessness of May (English)

Between days foaming with acacia bloom

and nights brimming with endless trills

of nightingales, the faulty body

slowly moves towards its destination

with such ease; nary a sound, as if

its load were merely curly clouds

and not the leaden weight of years.
