Juhász Gyula: A chime of bells (Harangjáték in English)

Portre of Juhász Gyula

Harangjáték (Hungarian)

A pillanat,
Mint temetőben a gyík, úgy szalad.

A percek,
Mint sivatagban a homok, peregnek.

Az órák,
Mint vándorok, az útat egyre rójják.

A napok
Mennek, mint körmenetben a papok.

Az élet
Elmúlik, mint felhői a nagy égnek.

Az örökkévalóság
Hullatja szirmait, miként a rózsák.

De gyakran
Ott van a tovatűnő pillanatban.

A chime of bells (English)

The moment
Runs, like lizards in a graveyard.

The minutes
Like desert sands, sink in.

The hours
March on, like pilgrims on a road.

The days
Proceed like priests in procession.

Life
Slips by, like the clouds of the mighty sky.

Eternity
sheds its petals, like roses do.

But often
It is there in a fleeting moment…
