Egy Brassai-képre (Hungarian)

Szerelmespár egy kis párizsi kávéházban, 1932

Csókra készülő szerelmesek,
egy tükrös falú kávéházi fészek
kegyetlen mélyén - -
látszólag észrevétlenek
a nagy leleplezések.

Nyolcvannégy éve
ülnek itt, ők, ketten,
férfias közöny, nőies elragadtatás
szavak nélküli, beszédes párosa.

Szerepcserére nincs,
nem is volt mód, soha,

On a Brassai image (English)

Lovers in a little Paris café, 1932

Lovers intent on a kiss, closely
closeted in the mirror-lined walls'
all-revealing depths - -
seemingly unobserved by them
is a great disclosure.

Eighty-four long years
have they sat there à deux,
staid masculinity the mute interlocutor
of joyous feminine effervescence.

Reverse the roles? No chance,
nor has there been, ever.
