Utolsó vágy (Hungarian)

Ha majd értem jön a halál
(Akármikor, készen talál),
És nem lesz, a ki megsirat:
Attól e szív meg nem riad.

Nem kell se könny, se koszorú:
A sír lakója nem hiú.
Hol csak bogáncs, gyom, tüske nő,
Az árok is jó pihenő.

És hogyha majd haló porom
Távol jövőben egykoron
Képezni fogja föld mezét
S kél-száll a légben szerteszét:

Hadd légyen útszélen helye,
Koldús sarúját lepje be;
Csak legalább melyet takar,
Legyen minden kis rög magyar.

S hol most kelettől nyúgatig
Testvérietlen nép lakik;
Egy nyelvet értsenek csupán:
Szép nyelvedet, magyar hazám!

The final wish (English)

When death decides to come for me
(Ready for it I'll surely be),
And there be no one there to cry
This heart won't shrink back, ponder why.

I need no wreath, no tears, no shroud,
Those in the grave are never proud.
Where thistle, weed and thorns infest,
A ditch suffices for a rest.

And when, what once was I, is dust,
In distant futures, surely must
Cover the earth and fill the air,
Scattering, flying everywhere:

Let it have room beside the road,
On beggar’s sandals find abode,
But let the sod it covers be
The Magyar earth that's dear to me.

From east side to the western side,
Where now non- kindred folk reside,
Let people only understand:
Your lovely tongue, my Motherland!
