Sebestyén Péter: Pengő utca, Budapest

Portre of Sebestyén Péter

Pengő utca, Budapest (Hungarian)

H. Évának

Ez egy forró délután, ez egy déjá vu.
Mégis a pohárba fagyott, kopog a víz;
Elmarad az a szép, újratapsolt revü,
Megkeseredik az a finom, fanyar íz.

Most lett húszéves a jelen- és múltidő.
Az a lényege, hogy mindig elhallgatom,
Mert másképp nem bírnám. A Nagy Hittérítő,
A szerelem elment. Fázik minden tagom.

Mondják, most Bécsben élsz; hogy óvónő lettél,
Családanya. Ilyen egyszerű az élet.
A Fény utcai piac sincs már. Hideg tél
És a nyár, nyolcvanhatban. Érjen már véget.

Pengő Street, Budapest (English)

To Éva H.

It’s a sizzling afternoon, it’s a déjá vu.
Yet the water’s frozen, it’s rattling in the glass,
They’ve cancelled that beautiful, curtain-call revue,
The fine, harsh flavour is turning bitter and sharp.

Present and past have now become aged twenty.
The thing is that I leave it unsaid all the time,
Or else I wouldn’t bear it. The Great Missionary,
Love has left. Every bit of my body is icy.

I hear you live in Vienna, work in a nursery,
Mother of children, your family. Life’s that simple.
No more market in Fény Street either. Cold winter
And the summer of eighty-six. Let it at last be over.
