Ed ora sono spariti i circoli d’ansia

che discorrevano il lago del cuore

e quel friggere vasto della materia

che discolora e muore.

Oggi una volontà di ferro spazza l’aria,

divelle gli arbusti, strapazza i palmizi

e nel mare compresso scava

grandi solchi crestati di bava.

Ogni forma si squassa nel subbuglio

degli elementi; è un urlo solo, un muglio

di scerpate esistenze: tutto schianta

l’ora che passa: viaggiano la cupola del cielo

non sai se foglie o uccelli – e non son più.

E tu che tutta ti scrolli fra i tonfi

dei venti disfrenati

e stringi a te i bracci gonfi

di fiori non ancora nati;

come senti nemici

gli spiriti che la convulsa terra

sorvolano a sciami,

mia vita sottile, e come ami

oggi le tue radici.

A szorongás gyűrűi elmaradtak,

mik az előbb a szív taván kerengtek,

s hatalmas sistergése az anyagnak,

mely sápad és kiszenved.

Cserjéket tép ki, pálmákat sanyargat

egy levegőt szántó vasakarat most,

s a tengert összegyűrve ás sok

széles, hullámtaréjos árkot.

Minden forma reszket az elemeknek

háborgásában, és egyetlen jajba vesznek

minden élők: minden tépi a múló

órát: falevelek vagy madarak vonulnak

az ég boltján, ki tudja, — már nyomuk sincs.

S te, ki remegsz a meg nem zabolázott

szélrohamoktól ütlegelve,

s még meg nem született virágok

csokrát szorítod a szívedre,

milyen ellenségesnek érzed

a szellemek seregét a vonagló

föld felett átrepülve,

vézna életem, s mily nagyon örülsz te,

hogy megköt a gyökérzet.
