Hevier, Daniel: A Man Seeking the Sea (Muž hľadá more in English)

Portre of Hevier, Daniel

Muž hľadá more (Slovak)

muž hľadá loď
pre svoje more

muž hľadá more
pre svoju loď

more je však z plameňov
a loď iba z papiera

***
zahrýza sa do jablka
ostrými perami
smädnými zubami
celou tvárou
sa vnára
do ružového mäsa
stravuje ho
ale chuť jablka
ostala v jabloni

***
pes na troch
nohách
močí do snehu

para stúpa
v bielych chuchvalcoch

zasahuje ma to

zasahuje ma to
svojou
zvieracou nežnosťou

***
psa treba kŕmiť
ale vlka nie

vlk je bežec
s nakovaným jazykom
a horiacimi zubami

nasýti sa
vlastnou zúrivosťou

priviazaný na re
ťazi
vetra a zimy

***
vzduch sa dotkol vzduchu
kameň prestúpil kameň
v jablku niečo vzdychlo

rozkvitli hračky

dvere prudko zakikiríkali

vtedy muž zazrel
ako jeho chlapec
odchádza
cez vylomené dvere

hľadať
svoje
more

***

noc horkne

telesná tma
sa dotýka jeho
vážneho tela

telo muža je
z mäsa
a plameňov

a on vie

že všetky ženy
sú menej

ako jedna žena

PublisherMuž hľadá more, Slovenský spisovateľ 1984

A Man Seeking the Sea (English)

a man seeks a boat
for his sea

a man seeks a sea
for his boat

yet the sea is of flame
and the boat only of paper

***
he bites into an apple
with sharp lips
thirsty teeth
with his whole face
he dips into pink meat
it feeds him
but the taste of the apple
remained in the apple tree

***
a dog on three
legs
pisses in the snow

steam rises
in white clots

it touches
me

it touches
me

with its
animal tenderness

***
a dog must be fed
a wolf not

a wolf is a runner
with an anvil tongue
and fiery teeth

it sates itself
with its own fury

bound on a chain
of wind and cold

***
air touched air
stone overturned stone
something sighed within an apple

toys bloomed

the door cock-a-doodled do

then the man noticed
how his son
was leaving
through a broken down door

to seek
another
sea

***
night gets bitter

bodily darkness
touches his
weighty body

the body of a man is
from flesh
and flames

and he knows

that all women
are less

than one woman
