Strážay, Štefan: Ophelia (Ofélia in English)

Portre of Strážay, Štefan

Ofélia (Slovak)

Ofélia, už trochu unavená,
s drobnými vráskami okolo úst
a pekných očí,
s dieťaťom, bytom a manželom,
rezignovaná, možno
šťastná -
iba niekedy, nie často
ešte si spomenie, ako mladučká,
v bielych závojoch,
snehovo krásna
plávala v dlhých vodách,
mŕtva.

Ophelia (English)

Ophelia, already a trifle weary,
with tiny wrinkles around her mouth
and lovely eyes,
with a kid, flat and husband,
resigned, perhaps
happy

at times, not often
she can still recall herself as a maiden
in white veils,
Snowily lovely,
floating in the long waters,
dead.
