Biography

poet, translator, essayist, and literary scholar

Born 9 December 1947 in Tušická Nová Ves. He studied Slovak and Russian at the Philosophical Faculty of P. J. Šafárik University in Prešov from 1966 to 1971. For a short time he worked as an editor in the East-Slovak Publishing House in Košice. For three years he was a research scholar at Šafárik University. From 1976 to 1983 he worked as a literary-dramatic editor in Slovak Radio in Košice. Then he was a research worker at the Institute of Artistic Criticism and Theatre Documentation in Bratislava. From 1988 to 1990 he was the chief editor of the magazine for young literature Dotyky, and from 1991 he has lectured on poetics at the Philosophical Faculty of Comenius University in Bratislava.
