Longfellow, Henry Wadsworth: Daždivý deň (The rainy day in Slovak)

Portre of Longfellow, Henry Wadsworth

The rainy day (English)

The day is cold, and dark, and dreary;
It rains, and the wind is never weary;
The vine still clings to the mouldering wall,
But at every gust the dead leaves fall,
And the day is dark and dreary.

My life is cold, and dark, and dreary;
It rains, and the wind is never weary;
My thoughts still cling to the mouldering Past,
But the hopes of youth fall thick in the blast,
And the days are dark and dreary.

Be still, sad heart! and cease repining;
Behind the clouds is the sun still shining;
Thy fate is the common fate of all,
Into each life some rain must fall,
Some days must be dark and dreary.

Daždivý deň (Slovak)

Studený deň, súmračný a pustý;
prší a vietor ani len neúnavný;
avšak vinič na zvetravej stene lipne,
po každom závane mŕtve lístie hynie,
deň súmračný a pustý.

Studený život môj, temný a pustý;
prší a vietor ani len neúnavný;
idey moje na zvetravom včerajšku lipnú,
nádeje mladosti hojne do vetra sa sypú
Deň čo deň súmračný a pustý.

Smutné srdce mlč a prestaň nariekať;
v úzadí mrakov slnko neprestane svitať;
bežným osudom všetkých tvoj osud je,
málo dažďa do každého života spŕchne,
pár dní musí byť temných a pustých.
