Stevenson, Robert Louis: Ne mondjátok, hogy gyáván föladtam (Say Not of Me That Weakly I Declined in Hungarian)

Say Not of Me That Weakly I Declined (English)Say not of me, that weakly I declined The labours of my siers, and fled to sea, The towers we founded and the lamps we lit, To play at home with paper like a child. But rather say: In the afternoon of time A strenuous family dusted from its hands The sand of granite, and beholding far Along the sounding coast its pyramids And tall memorials catch the cying sun, Smiled well content, and to this childish task Around the fire addressed its evening hours.

Ne mondjátok, hogy gyáván föladtam (Hungarian)Ó, ne mondjátok, hogy gyáván föladtam az ősök művét, a tengert, a lámpás őr-tornyokat, s az alkotás helyett otthon, papírral játszom, kisgyerekként. Mondjátok inkább: Idők délutánján egy szorgos család leverte kezéről a gránitport, s végignézve a zúgó parton, látta, ahogy a lebukó nap megcsillog büszke emlékművein, s elégedett mosollyal szánta csipp-csupp játszásra a kandallófényes estét.
