Graves, Robert: Mint hó (Like Snow in Hungarian)

Portre of Graves, Robert

Like Snow (English)

She, then, like snow in a dark night,
Fell secretly. And the world waked
With dazzling of the drowsy eye,
So that some muttered 'Too much light',
And drew the curtains close.
Like snow, warmer than fingers feared,
And to soil friendly;
Holding the histories of the night
In yet unmelted tracks.

Mint hó (Hungarian)

Hullt, hullt mint hó, hideg homályon át,
titokban hullt s felébredt a világ.
Sokan káprázó szemmel, hunyorogva,
morogva mondták: „Túlsok fény,"
és behúzták a függönyt.
Mint hó, de melegebbnek érzi ujjad
s a föld is barátságosabbnak.
Az éjszaka történeteit összefogja,
még meg nem olvadt pályán tartva őket.
