Keats, John: Az álomhoz (To Sleep in Hungarian)

Portre of Keats, John
Portre of Kosztolányi Dezső

Back to the translator

To Sleep (English)

O soft embalmer of the still midnight,

    Shutting, with careful fingers and benign,

Our gloom-pleas'd eyes, embower'd from the light,

    Enshaded in forgetfulness divine:

O soothest Sleep! if so it please thee, close

    In midst of this thine hymn my willing eyes,

Or wait the "Amen," ere thy poppy throws

    Around my bed its lulling charities.

Then save me, or the passed day will shine

Upon my pillow, breeding many woes,--

    Save me from curious Conscience, that still lords

Its strength for darkness, burrowing like a mole;

    Turn the key deftly in the oiled wards,

And seal the hushed Casket of my Soul.

Az álomhoz (Hungarian)

Ó, csöndes éjjel enyhe balzsama!

Lágy ujjaiddal érints könyörülve

s fénytől futó, éjimádó szemünkre

boruljon a felejtő éjszaka;

ó, édes Álom! hogyha akarod,

törd meg dalom most s fogd le gyenge pillám,

vagy várd meg a záró áment, amíg rám

a mákonyos ágy suttog altatót;

de óvj s erősíts, mert a vánkoson

a sírba szállt nap árnya átoson;

űzd el szobámból a busarcu gondot,

mert éjjel áskál, mint sunyi vakondok;

csukd el a lelkem ékszerét vigyázva

s fordítsd meg kulcsod az olajos zárba.
