Byron, George: Többé nem csatangolunk… (So We'll Go No More a-Roving in Hungarian)

Portre of Byron, George
Portre of Devecseri Gábor

Back to the translator

So We'll Go No More a-Roving (English)

So we'll go no more a-roving

   So late into the night,

Though the heart still be as loving,

And the moon still be as bright.

For the sword outwears its sheath,

And the soul outwears the breast,

And the heart must pause to breathe,

   And love itself have rest.

Though the night was made for loving,

And the day returns too soon,

Yet we'll go no more a-roving

By the light of the moon.

Többé nem csatangolunk… (Hungarian)

Többé nem csatangolunk hát

   ily késő éjbe már,

bár szivünk csöppet se lomhább

   s ragyog még a holdsugár.

Kardról lehull a hüvely

   és a lélekről a mell,

nem liheghet szűntelen:

   a szívnek béke kell.

Bár az éjben érzelem gyúl

   s túlhamar megtér a nap,

nem csatangolunk ezentúl

   holdas ég alatt.
