Sebestyén Péter: Autumn Card (Őszi anzix in English)

Portre of Sebestyén Péter

Őszi anzix (Hungarian)

A darvakkal táncolni –

Mi lehet még ilyen?     Hallgatásban
vergődik                    elgázolt
a szó.                        emlékeikben az
marad minden            ittfeledett pillanat

ami kezdet volt:         Kinyíló tereiben

horizont alá bukik.
szemében a szín nem látható –

sötétbe hamvad.        névtelen.

Akkor újrafesti           az alkony
a fák mozdulatát.
                                réges-rég hallott
zene
mind a hang.             kifeslett mondatait

márványszemekkel lesi e
madarakkal néma délután –

                                a legelső napok vége.

Szárnyaikon               Mikor
megvirradt                 onnan

új egekbe a darvak    minek
                                neve nincsen

örökre.                      elrepülnek.

Autumn Card (English)

Dancing with cranes -

What else could compare with it?   In silence
there’s squirming                         run-down
the word.                                    in their memories
there remain all                           left-behind moments

like the very start was:           In their opening spaces

they sink below the horizon.
the colour in his eyes can’t be seen –

it smoulders into dark.                  nameless.

Then the motion of the trees          by the sunset
is re-coloured.
                                                  heard long time ago
music
is the sound.                                its frayed sentences

are spied upon with marble eyes
by this afternoon quiet with birds -

the end of the first days.

On their wings                              When
it dawned                                     from there

the cranes into new skies              which
                                                  are nameless

for good and all.                           are flying away.
