   Miraris Tusci, Prosper alumne, poli.

Possunt et stulti sub utrolibet aëre nasci,

   Crassa dedit tenuem Mantua Vergilium.

Daß ein rauhes Land mich erschuf mit so reicher Begabung,

wundert dich, Prosper, denn dich nährte das tuskische Land.

Dummköpfe werden wahrscheinlich in beiderlei Klima geboren,

beide bringen mit Glanz feurige Geister hervor.

Demokrit stammte aus Abdera, das doch so reich war an Rindvieh,

Mantua, bäurisch und fett, gab uns den zarten Vergil.

Doch wenn du zögerst, dem Beispiel der Vorzeit zu glauben, sieh uns an!

Wie ist denn jeder von uns? Und woher kommen wir zwei?
