Tinódi Lantos Sebestyén: The Chronicle of Sigismund (extract) (Zsigmond király és császárnak krónikája (Részlet) Angol nyelven)

Tinódi Lantos Sebestyén portréja

Zsigmond király és császárnak krónikája (Részlet) (Magyar)

Énekben hallottam, vagy volt, vagy nem volt,
Tar Lõrinc hogy pokolba bément volt,
Egy tüzes nyoszolyát õ látott volt,
Négy szeginél négy tüzes ember áll volt.

Szózatot ott Tar Lõrincnek adának,
Az nyoszolyát tartják Zsigmond királynak,
Érsek, püspek, két paraszturak voltanak,
Az négyember hamis urak voltanak.

Érsek az hamis dézmaért kárhozott,
Kancellárius levél-váltságáért kárhozott,
A két nemes úr dúlásért kárhozott,
Hamis vámszörzésért egyik kárhozott.

Nagy sok csodát Tar Lõrinc látott volt,
Egy tüzes kádferedõt ott látott volt,
Zsigmond császár hogy benne feredett volt
Mária király-leányával ott forgódik volt.

Sok párta nélkül való leányokat,
Szép menyecskéket és szép ruhásokat,
Kiknek Zsigmond megmérte köldekeket,
Hosszaságokat és õ szép tűgyeket.

Ezt császárnak Tar Lõrinc megmondá,
Ezt felelé: lészen arrol nagy gondja,
Mint az õ ágyát pokolból kiiktassa.
És hogy menyországra igazathassa.

Koronának egy kis ágát elrontá,
Tizenhárom várast õ elszakasztá,
Nyolcvanezer forintért zálagosítá,
Budán Szent Zsigmondot avval rakatá.

Belé kazdagságot, papokat szörze,
Jószágot nagy sokat oda engede,
Szent Zsigmondnak õ azt felnevezteté,
Hanemha ágyát avval kivethette.

The Chronicle of Sigismund (extract) (Angol)

I have heard sung, it may be true or no
That Lawrence Tar down into hell did go,
And there he saw prepared a fiery bed
Four fiery men stood at the foot and head.

There they a message gave to Lawrence Tar and said
That for King Sigismund they kept this bed
An archbishop, bishop and two lay nobles they were
All four false and knavish lords they were.

The archbishop for levying false tithes was damned
The chancellor for selling title deeds was damned
Two noble lords for ravaging the land were damned
One of them for imposing wrongful dues was damned.

Many and great marvels saw Lawrence Tar there,
A great and fiery bathhouse saw he there
And Sigismund the Emperor was stewing there
And with Princess Maria was writhing there.

Many a maid without her maidenhead
Sweet young wives and ladies finely clad
King Sigismund the measurements of all had read
Their lovely paps, their navels and their heights he’d read.

Lawrence Tar told the Emperor what he had learned
Who answered that it now would be his great concern
Right speedily to have his bed from Hell ejected
And upon the true road to Heaven directed.

He broke a point off his imperial crown
He severed thirteen towns from his dominion
Those did he for eighty thousand forints pawn
And build therewith St. Sigismund’s in Buda town.

Priests he installed and much wealth he gave to it
Many great estates he did assign to it
To St. Sigismund he dedicated it
And so perchance his bed was saved by it.
