Velaj, Alisa: The pilgrims’ tale (Rrëfenjë pellegrinësh in English)

Portre of Velaj, Alisa

Rrëfenjë pellegrinësh (Albanian)

Askush s’merr mundimin
Ta dëgjojë rrëfenjën prej fillimit.
Gjethja është gjethe
Dhe pema është pemë.
E gjelbra prore mbetet
Iluzion pamor,
A shtrat i drunjtë pavetëdije.

Njëherë dashurova bredhin që s’ishte bredh
Dhe tremba vetminë me degë kaltërsie.
Pastaj aq shumë më lodhi pagjumësia
Sa rashë e lehtë pupël mbi kurora pemësh.

E pikërisht këtu nis përralla,
E asaj ç’ka pelegrinët të thanë për mua;
Se njëherë paskam qenë krejt prej mishi,
Por më pas - thurimë gjethnaje,
Një natë shtatori humba aftësinë
Që të ndiej afshet e kurmit tënd.

E ftohtë si në gjenet e origjinës,
Frymoj netëve nën hije qirinjsh
Pa kuptuar kurrfarë gjëje
Nga loja e brishtë e flakëzës.

... Dhe rrëfenja mbaron çdo natë me hënë
Kur ti i dehur nga lëbyrje trupash
U falesh Venerave me fytyra të mjegullta.

Pelegrin i trishtë
I udhëve ku pemët s’kanë gjethe ...

The pilgrims’ tale (English)

No one deigns
To listen to the tale from the very beginning.
Leaves are leaves,
And trees are trees.
Greenery always remains
A visual illusion,
Or an unconscious wooden bed.

I once love the fir that wasn’t a fir,
Frightening solitude with azure branches.
Then, sleeplessness tired me so much
That I fell like light feather over tree crowns.

And right here starts the tale
Of what pilgrims said about me;
That I once was made up of flesh and blood,
But afterwards, one September night,
Becoming a wattle of leaves, I lost the sense
Of feeling the fervor of your body.

Cold like I was in the genes of my origin,
I breathe under candle shadows at nights,
Without understanding anything
From the fragile game of the tiny little flame.

… And the tale ends every moonlit night
When you, drunk with blinding bodies,
Pray to VENUSES wearing misty faces …

You are such a sad pilgrim
Travelling along roads of leafless trees …
