Biography

Győző Határ born in 1914, he emigrated to Britain in the aftermath of the 1956 revolution, where he worked for the Hungarian service of the BBC until 1976. Following that, he worked for Radio Free Europe; after the change of regime in 1989 he frequently visited Hungary, where he held a notably active role in literary life, winning a number of literary awards, including the Kossuth Prize in 1991.  He survived his wife of fifty years, Piroska Prágai, by ten days.
