Biography

1923 (28th October) born in the village Mosonszentmiklós; is raised by his grandparents; finishes six years at grammar school in Győr
1936 settles with his grandparents in Angyalföld, Budapest; from the age of 16 works as an errand-boy
1940-1946 civil servant at a grocery that imports goods from the Far-East; reader at the University Printing House, with a scholarship from the Ministry of Religion and Education
1948 reader at the National Book Office
1949-50 Script-Editor at the Hungarian Film Producing Company
1950-77 Editor then Editor-in-Chief at Ifjúsági, then Móra Publishers; is responsible for “The Pearls of Hungarian Literature” and “The Pearls of World Literature”, two popular series, as well as the “Cosmos” series that sets young talents up in life
1963–65 lives in Paris, work for Seuil and Gallimard Publishers
1977 dies in Budapest (6th October)

His prizes include:
