Biography

Her Ph.D. work focused not only on early American literature, but also on the writing of fiction. Her dissertation is a short story collection entitled Sorrow for the Dead. Her teaching interests are in nature writing, environmental literature, and the literature of social justice and social change. She looks forward to teaching a course featuring the poetry of Emily Dickinson and Walt Whitman.

A native of Miami, Florida, Swanson now lives in Denver and teaches environmental literature and fiction and poetry workshops at Regis University, where she is a professor in the English Department.
