Biography

Ernest A. Seemann Born in Leipzig, Free State of Saxony, Germany in 1929; educated at the School of St. Thomas in Leipzig; had to flee the Soviets in 1946 with his father and landed in Braunschweig, Lower Saxony, where he began his education as a publisher. Moved to Munich in 1950 where, after completing his education, he worked for R. Oldenbourg Verlag, Ehrenwirth Verlag, and Ernst Reinhardt Verlag. Moved to the United States in 1959 where he became production manager at LSU Press in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and later at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, in 1964 to take the position of director of the University of Alabama Press. In 1967, he moved to Miami, Florida, to become director of the University of Miami Press. In 1976, decided to study law at the University of Miami School of Law where he obtained the J.D. and LL.M. degrees, specializing in international private law. Licensed in 1981, he practiced first in Miami and after 1992 (when his residence was totally destroyed by Hurricane Andrew), he moved to Cape Coral, Florida, where he started a new law firm that, among other mattes, catered to the large number of German speakers in that city. He retired from the active practice of law in 2001. Now he can devote time to certain hobbies which include translation of German poetry, epigrams, and aphorisms.
