Überall nur kurzer Schlaf

Im Mensch, im Grün, im Kelch der Winde.

Jeder kehrt in sein totes Herz heim.

 

– Ich wollt die Welt wär noch ein Kind –

Und wüßte mir vom ersten Atem zu erzählen.

 

Früher war eine große Frömmigkeit am Himmel,

Gaben sich die Sterne die Bibel zu lesen.

Könnte ich einmal Gottes Hand fassen

Oder den Mond an seinem Finger sehn.

 

O Gott, o Gott, wie weit bin ich von dir!

Dovunque solo più breve sonno

Nell’uomo, nel verde, nel calice del convolvolo.

Ognuno fa ritorno nel suo morto cuore.

 

– Vorrei che il mondo fosse ancora un bambino –

E a me sapesse raccontare dal primo respiro.

 

Prima era una grande devozione per il cielo,

Le stelle si mettevano a leggere la Bibbia.

Potessi una volta prendere la mano di Dio

O vedere la luna al suo dito.

 

O Dio, Dio, come ti sono lontana io!
