Brontë, Emily: Láska a vzájomnosť (Love and friendship in Slovak)

Portre of Brontë, Emily

Love and friendship (English)

Love is like the wild rose-briar,
Friendship like the holly-tree
The holly is dark when the rose-briar blooms
But which will bloom most constantly?

The wild rose-briar is sweet in spring,
Its summer blossoms scent the air;
Yet wait till winter comes again
And who will call the wild-briar fair?

Then scorn the silly rose-wreath now
And deck thee with the holly’s sheen,
That when December blights thy brow
He may still leave thy garland green.

Láska a vzájomnosť (Slovak)

Láska je ako ruža divoká,
vzájomnosť cezmína ostrolistá.
Cezmína temnie, ruža prekvitá,
ale ktorá sa večne kvitnúť chystá?

Tá divoká ruža na jar sladne,
voňajú letné kvety v ovzduší;
lenže počkaj, keď sa zima vráti.
Či budú ruže čestné? Nik netuší.

Treba ti veniec ruží trúfalý?
Lesklá cezmína viacej znamená.
keď ti december viečká zahalí,
girlanda zostane navždy zelená.
