Bruchac, Joseph: Tsaile Dawn

Portre of Bruchac, Joseph

Tsaile Dawn (English)

Coming down

the northwestern slope

just after dawn

from Canyon de Chelly

toward Tsaile

the Chuska Range wears a mantle

of gray rain clouds

like an ancient woman

still beautiful in her turkey feather robe.

The road edges are carpeted

yellow with rabbitbush and snakeweed

as many-headed sunflowers

turn

to drink

the silvered morning light.

We are here, we are here,

all the old ones sing

in the dawn that never leaves us.

Tsaile-i hajnal (Hungarian)

Leereszkedve

az északnyugati lejtőn

csak azután hajnalodik

a Canyon de Chelly-től

Tsaile felé

a Chuska körzet szürke esőfelhők

köpenyét viseli

mint ősöreg asszony

őrzi szépségét pulykatoll palástban.

Az útszegély sárga nyúlbokor és

kígyógyökér szőnyegével borított

ezerfejű napraforgók

fordulnak

inni

a reggeli ezüstös fényből.

Itt vagyunk, itt vagyunk,

az összes öreg énekel

a hajnalban és soha nem hagy el minket.

*Tsaile az apacs közigazgatási területen (Arizona, Amerikai Egyesült Államok) a Navajo Nation egyik központja.
