Butler, Samuel: Groteszk igazságok a Hudibras-ból (Grotesque details from Hudibras in Hungarian)

Portre of Butler, Samuel

Grotesque details from Hudibras (English)

1

The sun had long since in the lap

Of Thetis taken out his nap, so

And, like a lobster boil'd, the morn

From black to red began to turn.

2

For rhyme the rudder is of verses,

With which, like ships, they steer their courses.

3

But those that write in rhyme still make

The one verse for the other's sake.

4

Let it (quoth he) be what it will,

It has the world's opinion still.

Groteszk igazságok a Hudibras-ból (Hungarian)

Reggel

Thetis ölében álmatag

szundikált régóta a Nap,

s mint fővő rák, váltva szinét,

kipirúlt a fekete ég.

A rím

Rím a költemény evezője,

az hajtja a hajót előre.

Verspár

Rendre gyártja, ki vershez ért,

egyik sorát a másikért.

Közvélemény

Vakot vak, a közvélemény

vezet mindent a földtekén.
