Byrom, John: Rögtönzött sorok (Extempore verses (God bless the King!) in Hungarian)

Portre of Byrom, John
Portre of Tellér Gyula

Back to the translator

Extempore verses (God bless the King!) (English)

God bless the King! (I mean our faith's defender!)

God bless! (No harm in blessing) the Pretender.

But who Pretender is, and who is King,

God bless us all! That's quite another thing!

Rögtönzött sorok (Hungarian)

A pártharcok hevességének mérséklésére

Üdv rád, király, mint hit-védelmezőre;

s üdv rád is – mért ne? –, trón követelője;

ám hogy épp ki király s ki trónutód

– üdv ránk is –, az már egy másik dolog.
