Crane, Stephen: A sivatagban (In the desert in Hungarian)

Portre of Crane, Stephen

In the desert (English)

In the desert
I saw a creature, naked, bestial,
Who, squatting upon the ground,
Held his heart in his hands,
And ate of it.
I said, “Is it good, friend?”
“It is bitter—bitter,” he answered;

“But I like it
“Because it is bitter,
“And because it is my heart.”

A sivatagban (Hungarian)

A sivatagban
láttam egy teremtményt, pucér, elvetemült,
aki a földön guggolva
kezében tartotta a szívét
és ette azt.
Szóltam hozzá, „Jó ez, barátom?”
„Keserű, bizony – keserű,” válaszolta;
„De ínyemre van,
mert keserű
és mert az én szívem.”
