Dickinson, Emily: Sosem erjesztett szeszt nyelek (I taste a liquor never brewed in Hungarian)

Portre of Dickinson, Emily
Portre of Israel Efraim

Back to the translator

I taste a liquor never brewed (English)

I taste a liquor never brewed —
From Tankards scooped in Pearl —
Not all the Frankfort Berries
Yield such an Alcohol!

Inebriate of air — am I —
And Debauchee of Dew —
Reeling — thro' endless summer days —
From inns of molten Blue —

When "Landlords" turn the drunken Bee
Out of the Foxglove's door —
When Butterflies — renounce their "drams" —
I shall but drink the more!

Till Seraphs swing their snowy Hats —
And Saints — to windows run —
To see the little Tippler
Leaning against the — Sun!

Sosem erjesztett szeszt nyelek (Hungarian)

Sosem erjesztett szeszt nyelek —
Serlegem Gyöngybe-vájt —
Frankfurt minden szőlőszeme
Nem ad nedűt ilyet!

A lég részege vagyok én —
A Harmat Ittasa —
Kék kocsmákból — nyár-éjeken —
Tántorgok el — s tova —

Ha „Bár-Úr” méhet, részeget,
Gyűszűvirágból kihajít —
Pillangó ha már — nem vedel —
Hát én vedelek itt

Míg Angyal lenget kalapot
S ablakhoz Szent szalad
Kis Dülöngélőt látni
Kit támogat — a Nap!

Tótfalusi István "Rajná"-val helyettesítette be Frankfortot, a híres rajnamenti borokra célozva. Prózai szöveg fordításában ez hiba volna, mert egyik németországi Frankfurt sem fekszik a Rajna partján, de ebben a versben ennek természetesen semmi jelentősége sincs. Az eredeti vers egyik változatában Rajna áll Frankfurt helyett.
