Mississippi (English)

In the beginning was the dark
moan and creak, a sidewheel
moving through. Thicker
then, scent of lilac,
scent of thyme; slight hairs
on a wrist lying down in sweat.
We were falling down
river, carnal
slippage and shadow melt.
We were standing on the deck
of the New World, before maps:
tepid seizure of a breeze
and the spirit hissing away…

Mississippi (Hungarian)

Kezdetben volt a sötét
nyögés és nyikorgás, egy lapátkerék
forog hosszirányban. Majd
sűrűsödik, orgonaillat,
kakukkfű illata; könnyű szőrök
egy izzadt csuklóra tapadva.
Ott zuhogtunk alá,
a folyó, a csusszanó
hús és olvatag árnyék.
Ott álltunk az Új Világ
fedélzetén, a térképek kora előtt:
meg-megrándul a langyos szél,
s a lélek elsüvölt…
