Emerson, Ralph Waldo: A víz (Water in Hungarian)

Portre of Emerson, Ralph Waldo
Portre of Israel Efraim

Back to the translator

Water (English)

The water understands
Civilization well;
It wets my foot, but prettily,
It chills my life, but wittily,
It is not disconcerted,
It is not broken-hearted:
Well used, it decketh joy,
Adorneth, doubleth joy:
Ill used, it will destroy,
In perfect time and measure
With a face of golden pleasure
Elegantly destroy.

A víz (Hungarian)

A víz biz' érti a
Civilizációt.
Eláztat, ám az kellemes,
Ahogy lehűt, az szellemes,
Csak ritkán jön zavarba,
Ritkán van felkavarva:
Ügyes vagy? boldogít,
Szépít, vidít, segít,
Nem vagy? pusztít legitt,
Mindent kimérve szépen,
A maga idejében
Osztva csapásait.
