Frost, Robert: Havas este megállok az erdő mellett (Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening in Hungarian)

Portre of Frost, Robert
Portre of Jánosy István

Back to the translator

Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening (English)

Whose woods these are I think I know.

His house is in the village though;

He will not see me stopping here

To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer

To stop without a farmhouse near

Between the woods and frozen lake

The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake

To ask if there is some mistake.

The only other sound's the sweep

Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.

But I have promises to keep,

And miles to go before I sleep,

And miles to go before I sleep.

Havas este megállok az erdő mellett (Hungarian)

Sejtem, ki fái mind e fák.

A faluban a háza. Hát

Mit bánja, hogy megállok itt

Nézni, hogy lepi hó a fát.

Méltán furcsállja kis gebém:

Ház nincs sehol, s megállok én

A fák, a befagyott tó között

Az év legtintább éjjelén.

Kantárcsörgőit rázza, és

Azt kérdezi: ez tévedés?

Egy másik hang: a könnyü szél,

S hulló hópihe-zizzenés.

Szépek a fák, éjszomorúk.

Ha mit ígértem, nincs kiút...

Alvás előtt mérföldnyi út.

Alvás előtt mérföldnyi út.
